Approach the casualty before committing

A revive is valuable only if you can complete it. Use cover, read the direction of incoming fire and avoid sprinting directly into the same angle that downed the teammate. The goal is not simply to interact with the body; it is to restore a player and keep both players alive.

Revives and the economy

Team17 explicitly lists reviving squadmates as a cash-rewarded action. That makes Medic one of the clearest examples of the game rewarding non-kill contribution. The persistent economy also means a sustainable Medic life can generate value repeatedly instead of betting everything on one expensive kit.
